Two types of hydropower systems are usually used: the deep percolation system and the horizontal axis turbine. The deep percolation system is a lot more efficient, allowing for a much larger harvest per unit of installed field; however, it is also more expensive to install. The horizontal axis turbine is basically a scaled-down version of a hydropower plant; however, because it doesn’t have to be connected to any water pipes or electrical lines, it can be installed on any flat surface.

Although all renewable energy sources have a number of pros and cons, they are still very much feasible and affordable. One reason why they are so viable is because of the prices of fuels, which have been steadily rising, over the last thirty years. Hydropower and biofuels are not only more efficient than fossil fuels when it comes to producing power, but they also produce their own pollution free fuels. By the end of this decade, biofuels could completely replace gasoline as the worlds largest source of clean diesel; along with a huge amount of non-erosene that would go into the making of ethanol. However, if things continue to move in the wrong direction with regard to global warming, there may not be enough biomass to make ethanol any time soon.
